Cananga fragrant (Cananga odorata var. macrophylla) is an unruly tree that grows through tropical vegetation. The much prized essential oil is extracted from its beautiful yellow flowers by a gentle process, steam distillation.
Did you know?
Kananga essential oil is often portrayed and confused with ylang-ylang essential oil. In fact, both oils are extracted from the flowers of the Cananga odorata tree, but ylang-ylang from the genuina species and cananga from the macrophylla species. The aroma of cananga essential oil is also more woody, while its action is more subtle.
Ingredients
Kananga essential oil is a natural cocktail of hundreds of bioactive substances. However, a substance called β-caryophyllene is considered to be the most important.

A GLIMPSE INTO HISTORY
Holy tree
Since time immemorial, the Kananga fragrant tree has been considered the so-called „Holy Tree“ in Indonesia. There is a strong symbolism and tradition attached to its beautiful yellow flowers. And to this day, it is still an essential part of weddings and funerals there.
