Cocoa contains theobromine and caffeine,
the effects of which set in more gradually than those in
coffee, but last longer. The unique ratio of these substances
provides an unusual combination of stimulation and calming at the same time.
Look forward to a state of calm and relaxed
alertness.
According to traditional cultures, cocoa contributes to
recovery and works as an overall boost for the
body. In its country of origin it is used to support digestion,
childbirth or breastfeeding and as a
boost not only in old age. It also has anaphrodisiac
effects.
This cocoa is made from selected cocoa nibs sourced from
organic farming. The small batch is being
created right here at BEWIT. We process it very gently at
temperatures up to 42°C to comply with the principles of raw eating. Also
represented in the selection of varieties is the highly regarded
Criollo.

Cocoa – the precious food of the gods
The cacao tree (Theobroma cacao) is a tree native
to tropical parts of South America. Today it is widespread throughout the
tropical belt, widely cultivated in Africa (Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon and
others). Its name means „food of the gods“. The fruits are pods about 30 cm
long that contain seeds called cocoa beans inside. And it is precisely from
these that cocoa is made, a raw material beloved worldwide.
What is ceremonial cocoa?
Ceremonial cocoa is designed for meditation ceremonies and
rituals, whether by this ritual you mean a morning moment to yourself
with a cup of the delicious drink, or special cocoa circles. We make it with
love from quality cocoa beans in organic quality, which have
undergone gentle processing to preserve the maximum of
beneficial substances in them.
Cocoa ceremonies originated in the 1990s in the context of
the New Age movement. They loosely follow the traditions of Central American
civilizations such as the Maya and Aztecs. For them, cacao was a sacred and
ritualistic ingredient. It was expensive, so it was only available to selected
high-ranking warriors and also served as a form of currency.
What is the difference between chocolate and 100% cocoa mass?
The cocoa mass consists exclusively ground cocoa beans. It
can be used pure, e.g. as ceremonial cocoa, or used as raw material for further
processing, e.g. for chocolate. Chocolate is then made from
cocoa mass, which is tempered and supplemented with sugar or other added
ingredients.
Method of use
Ceremonial cocoa is traditionally prepared as a hot drink. Cut the cocoa with
a ceramic knife into smaller pieces and pour the desired amount
of water, vegetable milk, or herbal or spice decoction.
The liquid you choose should be at a temperature of 70 to
80 °C to preserve as many beneficial substances as possible. To
dissolve and simultaneously create a rich foam, use a whisk (if you have one,
the traditional Mexican molinillo), a matcha whisk, or an immersion blender.
If you need to, add sweetener to taste. The taste of cocoa
is well combined with e.g. our BEWIT
Cane Juice Dried Organic, Unrefined, BEWIT Date Powder,
Organic or BEWIT Coconut
Syrup, Organic.
There are no limits to the combinations of tastes and intentions! BEWIT Maca
BIO RAW, BEWIT Cinnamon Ceylon
Ground,
BEWIT Lucuma Powder, BIO or
BEWIT Whole Cloves
will also be a great addition to your ceremonial cocoa.
Cocoa is traditionally prepared with intention, in a space cleansed with
heating agents (palo santo, white sage, copal, etc.), in the presence of the
element of fire and music.
Dosage
For 200 ml of drink you will need:
- For beginners and children – drink of more delicate taste:
15–20 g
- For cocoa full of flavour: 20–34 g
- Ceremonial dose: 34–44 g
- Generally recommended maximum daily dose: 50 g
Follow the recommended maximum daily dose because you can overdose on
cocoa. Overdose is manifested by headache, very strong palpitations and
trembling of the hands. Always follow a drinking regime when drinking
cocoa, as it is a diuretic.

Recommended storage
Store in a dry and dark place. Ideally at a temperature between 14–18 °C,
up to a maximum of 24 °C, protect against temperature fluctuations. Once
opened, store in a tightly sealed container – food moths love cocoa.
Warning
This product does not have a powdery consistency, it is a solid
mass, which must be chopped or grated before use. This is not tempered
chocolate. Fatty blooms are natural, they are not a defect.
Due to the theobromine and caffeine content in combination, the effects of
which can last up to 7 hours, we recommend drinking cocoa rather in the
morning.
People with low blood pressure and pregnant and lactating women and young
children should indulge in cocoa with caution, or consult a
physician.
