Do you want an incense with a cleansing effect and a more subtle
fragrance?
Discover sandarac resin, prized for centuries in North African cultures. In
both scent and appearance, it resembles frankincense, but it is
milder and sweeter, which will also be appreciated by people
who have strong or unpleasant memories associated with frankincense and are
looking for other options.
The delicate balsamic fragrance with a hint of sweet and fruity notes will
calm the mind and induce a feeling of lightness. Sandarac is
traditionally associated with harmonising emotions, releasing
psychological tension, and providing support during periods of stress, fatigue,
or sleep problems.
It will help you rid spaces of heavy energies and restore a
sense of inner purity. It is suitable for meditation, yoga,
evening quiet time, and ritual practice. It is popular in women's circles and
ceremonies. Thanks to its subtlety, it is also excellent for smaller spaces.
Sandarac is a great choice for incense lovers and creators of their own
blends who are looking for something less common, but still
traditional. It can be used alone or combined with other resins
and herbs.
Our sandarac resin is 100% natural, with no added substances
or synthetic fragrances. It offers an experience of
authenticity and connects traditional ritual use with the modern need
for calm, lightness, and gentle cleansing.
Why use incense
Incense burning is an ancient way of cleansing space, uplifting the
mind, and inducing a state of harmony. The smoke from resins purifies
the air, brings peace, grounding, concentration, and spiritual attunement.
- Calms, helps harmonise emotions
- Supports concentration and clarity of mind
- Accompanies rituals and spiritual practice
- Energetically tunes spaces
- Neutralises unwanted odours
Instructions for use – how to burn incense
On charcoal: Place a quick-lighting charcoal disc in a
fireproof dish with sand, light it, and add a piece of resin. This is the most
effective method for quick energy cleansing; the disadvantage is the more
intense smoke requiring ventilation.
On a burner with a sieve: A special burner allows for more
subtle and longer incense burning, which is optimal for meditation and smaller
spaces. After burning, it is necessary to remove resin residues from the sieve
with a brush or by washing in warm water.
In an electric censer: A portable electric censer offers a
convenient, clean, modern, and safe way to burn incense. With a censer, you
avoid the creation of thick smoke and the burning of the mixture.
Tips for burning incense
For a cleaner fragrance, it is advisable to use a mica
plate, a thin sheet of mica, which prevents burning and ensures a more
delicate and longer-lasting scent.
Larger grains can be lightly crushed in a mortar for faster release of
fragrance.
Safety warnings
- Always use a non-flammable container, keep it out of reach of children
and pets.
- Do not leave burning unattended.
- Ensure ventilation.
- Do not inhale smoke at close range.
- People sensitive to smoke or pregnant women should use incense
sparingly.
- Not intended for direct consumption or treatment – it is a traditional
aromatic raw material.
Resin or essential oil?
Resins and essential oils share some common effects, but differ in many other
aspects.
Incense refers to natural resins, herbs, woods, and spices
that are heated on charcoal, a burner, or in a censer. In contrast,
essential oils are concentrated plant extracts suitable for
diffusers or, after proper dilution, for skin application.
Incense is characterised by an authentic, „live“, rawer
fragrance with smoky notes, allowing for quick and intense
energetic cleansing of spaces and strong support for
rituals, meditations, women's circles, and various
ceremonies.
Essential oils will be useful when you need to gently and
long-term scent spaces or are looking for a targeted aromatherapy effect.
Incense is ideal for momentary cleansing, ceremonies, sacred
moments, meditations, rituals, and ceremonial work.
Traditional incense from Africa
Natural sandarac resin is obtained from the sandarac tree (Tetraclinis
articulata), a conifer from the cypress family, which originates from
north-west Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia).
From ancient times, it served as incense, and in the Middle
Ages, it was used to make varnishes for oil paintings and furniture. In
traditional African healing, it is considered a preparation that wards off
unwanted energies. Symbolically, it is associated with the planet
Mercury – the realm of mind, breath, and communication.
Today, it is used in aromatherapy for its calming and harmonising effects, as
incense in spiritual practice, and for making special varnishes for restoring
paintings.
