Pimento tree (Pimenta racemosa) is a tropical evergreen tree with aromatic ovate leaves and white flowers. The resulting essential oil is extracted from its flowers by a gentle process, steam distillation.

Native to the Virgin Islands, Bay St. Thomas essential oil is often confused with Laurel Bay essential oil, which is derived from the leaves of the laurel tree.
COMPOSITION
Bay St.Thomas essential oil is a natural cocktail of hundreds of biologically active substances. However, substances called Eugenol and β-myrcene are considered pivotal.

A GLIMPSE INTO HISTORY
The famous aftershave
The leaves of the pimento tree were used by the Arawak Indians and later in the 17th century by European sailors and their slave crews,who used the crushed leaves as a deodorant during long voyages. The leaves were also used to create the famous Bay Rum aftershave, which was very popular in the USA during the 1950s.
