Do you want a simple way to cleanse your space, slow down, and tune into
yourself?
Discover palo santo, also known as holy wood. This incense has been part of
rituals for indigenous peoples of South and Central America for centuries. Just
as it served them, it will also serve you for cleansing, harmonisation,
and protection of your space and personal energy, and for connecting
with the spiritual realm.
Light the stick, let it burn briefly, then blow out the flame. The smoke will
gradually fill the space with a characteristic sweet, woody
scent with a balsamic undertone. It will help you quiet your
mind, dispel negative thoughts, release tension, and stabilise
emotions. It will support grounding and concentration.
It will scent the room and create a calm atmosphere, accompanying
meditation, prayer, and spiritual practice. It will also find
its place in everyday life, e.g., during relaxation, calming down before sleep,
practising yoga, or whenever you seek a conscious pause and a
sense of balance.
Palo santo will be appreciated by incense lovers and those who want to deepen
their rituals or discover a new dimension of working with fragrance. You can
use the stick on its own, but you can also chop it into smaller
pieces or grate it into shavings and enrich your own incense
blends with them.
Sacred palo santo wood
Palo santo incense stick, also known as fragrant copal, comes from the tree
Bursera graveolens. This belongs to the same botanical family as
frankincense and myrrh. It grows in the tropical forests of South and Central
America, especially in Peru, Ecuador, and Mexico.
In local cultures, it has deep symbolic significance. It is
perceived as a sacred tree associated with purification,
protection, and spiritual power. Its fragrance has been used for centuries in
rituals, prayers, and traditional ceremonies, where it helped to cleanse the
space and support connection with subtler levels of perception.
The method of obtaining the wood is interesting. In many countries, the tree
is protected, and its processing is subject to strict rules. Therefore, live
trees are usually not cut down; instead, only naturally fallen
branches are used, which mature on the ground for several years. Only
during this process does the characteristic aroma, rich in natural fragrant
components, fully develop.
As a result, each stick has its unique profile and offers an authentic,
profound experience that also includes respect for nature and the natural cycle
of life.
Why use incense

and purifies the air, calms the mind, supports grounding, concentration, and
spiritual attunement.

- Supports concentration and clarity of mind
- Accompanies rituals and spiritual practice
- Energetically tunes spaces
- Neutralises unwanted odours
Instructions for use – how to burn incense
Light the stick at one end, let it burn sufficiently, then blow out the
flame. Place it on a fireproof dish or in a special holder.
Tip: If you chop the stick into smaller pieces or grate it into shavings, you
can add it to your own incense blends, which it will beautifully enrich. You can
use these blends for burning, for example, in an electric censer, such as our Ritual
Mist or Dark
Temple.
Safety warnings
- Make sure you have blown out the flame; do not leave fire burning
unattended.

- Keep out of reach of children and animals.
- Ensure thorough ventilation.
- Do not inhale smoke closely.
- Individuals sensitive to smoke or pregnant women should use incense
sparingly.
- Not intended for direct consumption or treatment – it is a traditional
aromatic raw material.
Incense blend or essential oil?
Incense and essential oils have similar effects in some aspects, but differ
in many others.
Incense are natural resins, herbs, woods, and spices. We
heat them on charcoal, a burner, in a censer, or in a special holder. They are
characterised by an authentic, „live“, rawer scent with
smoky undertones. They are ideal for quick and intense energetic
cleansing and strong support for rituals, meditations,
ceremonies, women's circles, and various rites.
In contrast, essential oils are concentrated plant extracts
suitable for diffusers or – after proper dilution – also for the skin.
They are suitable for a gentler scenting of spaces without smoke or for a
targeted aromatherapy effect.
If you want to use the scent of holy wood in other ways, we have the
essential oil Fragrant
Copal – Palo Santo available.
