Shungite got its name from the place of its first discovery – Karelian village of Shunga.
Shungite has been used for its unique properties since the early 18th century. Tsar Peter the Great is said to have used this method himself to purify water for his army, ensuring better health and hygiene among his soldiers.
Due to its excellent absorption and strong harmonising properties, shungite has also proven itself in the care of garden and house plants. As well as being able to bind water in the soil very effectively and reduce the need for irrigation, this exceptional mineral also adjusts the pH of the soil to values between 7 and 7.5.
Moreover, it is very environmentally friendly and safe for human health.
By virtue of its structure, shungite is a mineraloid – a non-porous polymineral carbon rock that contains nearly half of the elements of the periodic table. Visually, it appears as an opaque black stone with a distinct, sometimes subtle, metallic sheen.
Our shungite pebble ## has a practical shape and size** that make it very easy to incorporate into a flower bed, a pot or a planter. Bury it deep in the soil for optimum function.
Please note – it is not coated to maintain its optimum properties and may stain. We recommend wearing gardening gloves when handling untreated shungite pebbles to protect your hands, as they may have rough edges and could potentially cause irritation. Shungite is often used in various forms for its healing properties, but raw, untreated stones can be abrasive.
