Freeze-dried instant coffee
Coffee beans are the seeds of the coffee tree. It originally
grew in Africa in the area of present-day Ethiopia, but is now widespread
throughout the tropical belt.
Two species are most commonly used to obtain coffee: the Arabic
coffee tree (Coffea arabica), from which arabica coffee is
derived, and the sturdy coffee tree (Coffea canephora
or Coffea robusta), from which robusta coffee is obtained.
Instant coffee is produced by different methods. Lyophilisation technology,
also known as freeze-drying, is one of the gentlest methods
available.
The strong coffee extract is poured onto chilled metal plates where it is
flash frozen. It is then crushed and further dried to remove any remaining
water. Thanks to this process, coffee retains a richer taste and
aroma than other instant coffees.
Method of use
Pour approximately 1 to 2 teaspoons of powder (about 2–4 g) over 200 ml
of boiling water, let stand for a few minutes and then drink.
