HISTORY
The ancient Chinese held fluorite in high regard, both for its
beauty and its ability to bring vivid, lucid dreams.
They reasoned that by placing this crystal near your bed (not
under your pillow) its energy will radiate into the dream world
and cause you to have beautiful dreams, the likes of which you
have never experienced.
Ancient Egyptians used fluorite to carve scarabs and statues of
deities. Ancient Romans used it for decoration. Pliny
the Elder, an ancient Roman scholar and historian, loved fluorites so much that
he listed them as his favourite minerals.
It was named in 1797 by Carlo Antonio Galeani Napione and the name comes from
the Latin, fluere = „to flow“ , to flow. The term fluorescence is derived
from fluorite, which often shows this effect strongly, and refers to the ability
of fluorite to glow in the dark after being exposed to UV
light. The name fluorine also derives its name from fluorite, the main
source of this element.
