Do you need to soften your skin and at the same time give your homemade cosmetics a firmer consistency?

Try kokum butter, a natural cosmetic raw material that stands out for its firmness, oxidative stability, and characteristic structure. At room temperature, it remains solid, but upon contact with the skin, it quickly melts due to body heat, spreads easily, and absorbs quickly.

It is particularly rich in stearic and oleic acid. Thanks to its specific composition, it is an excellent helper for softening, smoothing, and protecting the skin from excessive moisture loss. It supports its natural lipid barrier and regeneration, leaving it smooth, supple, and pleasant to the touch.

You will appreciate it when caring for rough and stressed skin, for example, on hands, feet, elbows, or lips. It is suitable for products for skin prone to dryness and cracking. After application, it leaves a light feeling and does not clog pores.

In hair cosmetics, it helps care for dry lengths and ends, smooths the hair surface, and gives it softness. You can use it in the production of conditioners, hair masks, solid shampoos, and protective balms for ends.

Kokum butter is one of the firmest vegetable butters. In cosmetic formulations, it therefore serves as a structuring and stabilising ingredient: it firms balms, lipsticks, or solid creams without the resulting product feeling too waxy or unpleasantly stiff.

Its high stability slows down the oxidation of the fat phase. It combines well with softer vegetable butters and oils, to which it adds a firmer consistency and better resistance to higher temperatures.

This is a cosmetic raw material intended for external use only.

How kokum butter is made

Kokum butter is made from the seeds of the kokum tree (Garcinia indica). This tree originates from the tropical region of India and is sometimes also referred to as red or wild mangosteen. It produces dark red fruits, whose pulp is used in local cuisine, while the seeds contain valuable vegetable fat.

After harvesting, the seeds are separated from the fruits, cleaned, and dried. The fat is then extracted from their kernels by pressing or extraction, and subsequently purified and processed into solid kokum butter. The result is a solid, slightly crumbly raw material that quickly melts upon contact with the skin.

Recommended use

Used as a raw material for cosmetic production, in creams, body lotions, hair conditioners, lip balms, decorative cosmetics.

Creative Tip – Solid Hand Care Bar
