A Year in the Rhythm of TCM

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), July is the period of high summer and the Fire element. Nature is at its peak, energy flows fully, and the body must cope with heat, sweating, and increased activity.

This time belongs to the heart, pericardium, blood vessels, and blood circulation. In TCM, the heart is seen as the "Emperor" who governs blood, blood vessels, and our emotional state. The pericardium then acts as its protective layer, shielding the heart from heat, stress, emotional overload, and sudden mood swings.

The natural emotion of summer is joy. In balance, it can manifest as openness, a desire to share, create, and fully experience life. However, when overloaded, inner restlessness, emotional overwhelm, heat fatigue, or a feeling of heavy legs may appear.

We bring you a selection of products inspired by the energy of July, the Fire element, and the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Support the heart, blood vessels, and blood circulation in the rhythm of summer

In the summer heat, the body loses not only fluids through sweating but also vital Qi energy from a TCM perspective. The heart has to work harder, so in July, it is important not to overexert yourself, protect yourself from overheating, and regularly replenish fluids. According to TCM principles, it is advisable to:

  • include room temperature water and avoid ice-cold drinks
  • lighten your diet and prefer light seasonal dishes
  • include watermelon, cucumbers, leafy greens, beetroot, cherries, strawberries, blueberries, and cranberries
  • supplement with mung beans, millet, and corn
  • limit alcohol, sugar, excess salt, and heavy fatty foods
  • do not overdo it with too much raw food
  • exercise preferably in the morning or evening
  • rest in the shade and protect yourself from overheating
  • do not overexert yourself and take breaks during the day

TIP: A suitable summer supplement can be peppermint tea for calming or buckwheat herb and flower tea as a source of rutin for vascular care.
