The Brazil nut tree is up to 50 m tall and grows wild in the rainforests of South America. Its fruit are nutritious Brazil nuts. The nuts take about 14 months to mature and are harvested and processed using traditional methods by local Indians.
The kernel is very nutritious, containing 70 % fat, 15 % protein and 7 % carbohydrates. They also contain vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, E and D, selenium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and iron.
Uses: in salads, fruit juices, desserts and for baking and frying, or simply with bread. It has a pleasant nutty taste and is also suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Storage: in a dry, dark place at a temperature of up to 25 °C
